From charity lunches to seven course menus, and with bonfires, tastings and feasts galore, there’s so much going on this month.

 

LITTLE PLATES

Residents of Wadebridge are eagerly awaiting the opening of Rupert and Sarah Wilson’s new bar and restaurant, Little Plates, just months after they relaunched The Ship Inn.

Currently undergoing a refurb designed by Sarah, and due to open on Tuesday 12th November, Little Plates will serve food inspired by recipes from around the world. Many of the dishes will have a Spanish, Middle Eastern or Mediterranean influence, such as pinchos morunas (Iberico pork with paprika and cumin), sweet red piquillo peppers stuffed with crab, and Venetian style sardines.

Little Plates will be open from 9am for coffee and churros with chocolate sauce (yum!) through to evenings, when you can drop in for a glass of wine or cocktail and share a few little plates with a friend.

Opening hours: 9am to 9pm from Monday to Thursday (kitchen closed on Monday evening) and 9am to 9.30pm on Friday and Saturday. Closed on Sunday.

CHARITY LUNCHES AT ST PETROC’S

This November, Rick Stein’s St Petroc’s Bistro will be hosting two weeks of lunches to raise funds for the charity WaterAid, an international charity which provides access to safe, clean water, sanitation and hygiene to some of the world’s poorest communities. It is estimated that 768 million people in the world do not have access to safe water – roughly one in ten of the world’s population.

From Monday 4 to Sunday 17 November, three courses will cost £12.50 plus a £2 cover charge donated directly to WaterAid. BINTWO WINE TASTING

Wine merchant David McWilliam, owner of binTwo in Padstow, is holding a wine tasting event on Saturday 23 November, from 11am to 4pm, at the Drang Gallery. David will guide you through a selection of his top tipples, specially chosen for his wine shop, which doubles up as a cosy wine and champagne bar in the heart of Padstow, with perfect coffee a bonus.

BONFIRES AND BEAUJOLAIS ON THE BEACH

Watergate Bay’s Executive Chef Neil Haydock has put together three warming wintery foodie events for November:

On Friday 8 November The Beach Hut will be launching their winter menu with “Welcoming the Winter”: beach bonfire, barbecue, live music, sharing platters and marshmallows.

A French Feast will herald the arrival of the first bottles of Beaujolais nouveau on Thursday 21 November. Beginning with a talk on the famous French red wine the meal will include French onion soup, beef bourguignon and tarte fine aux pommes (pictured above). £25 per person.

Cornwall meets the USA for a traditional Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday 28 November, featuring turkey, pumpkin pie, Cornish potatoes and apple cider.

WILD FOOD TASTING EVENT AT SAFFRON

The award-winning – and recently refurbished – Saffron in Truro will host a special wild food event on Wednesday 13 November: a six course tasting menu of game, foraged food and the best of Cornish autumnal produce. The evening kicks off with a glass of bubbly and a talk by ex-Royal Marine forager Miles Lavers, who spent a year living in the wilderness.

The menu is a foraged feast. Expect Falmouth Bay prawns with herb butter, sorrel and sea grass; partridge with Jerusalem artichokes, service tree berries, hawthorn dressing and chick weed salad; and turbot with nettle potato gnocchi, limpets, mussels and thyme butter with fennel pollens.

Vegetarians are catered for with an equally delicious sounding menu including spiced pumpkin soup with ras el hanout cream and honey fungus wild mushrooms with seaweed pancakes, mermaid grass and sea beet.

PICNIC HAMPERS, TASTINGS & CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

On each Saturday during November Picnic Cornwall will be playing host to a range of their producers, giving customers the chance to meet them and hear all about their Cornish products, as well as the very important business of having a taste.

Tasting sessions will be from 12 noon to 2.30pm and from 4pm to 6pm on Saturdays.

With Christmas just over the horizon, Picnic is launching their range of hampers online and are taking part in Falmouth’s late night shopping festivities on Thursday evenings. Starting on 28 November, Picnic Cornwall will be open until 9pm serving warm, festive fare and offering stacks of Christmas goodies on their shelves.

FABULOUS FEASTS AT KNIGHTOR WINERY

This month Knightor Winery is hosting two special dinners.

In conjunction with Food Magazine, Saturday 9 November sees a seven course French Food and Wine Feast, with wine samples matching the dishes. £39.99 per person.

Master winemaker James Thomas will host The Winemaker’s Dinner on Friday 15th November to celebrate the end of the vintage. James will choose and present wines to match the three courses of local Cornish produce. £40 per person.

COOK CHRISTMAS WITH JAMES NATHAN

Serious foodies can escape for a four night gourmet getaway: Cook Christmas with MasterChef 2008 winner James Nathan.

Staying at the five star Retallack Resort and Spa, guests will participate in a master class, with demos and tuition from James on how to create canapés, a Cornish super seafood cocktail and chocolate gifts. They will also watch James and his team prepare their signature seven course tasting menu – and then enjoy eating it. Also included is an evening of drinks with James and a trip to Padstow Christmas Festival.
