MOTHER’S DAY IN CORNWALL
There’s no better excuse to treat mum than on Mother’s Day, so we’ve come up with some gifts that your mum will love, with a round-up of what’s going in Cornwall especially for the occasion too.
It’s slightly earlier this year, falling on Sunday 11 March, so don’t delay on booking tables, buying gifts, or dropping hints as to what you’d like…
MOROCCAN SPA EXPERIENCE AT SANDS RESORT
Treat your mum to the ultimate relaxation with a spa retreat at Newquay’s Sands Resort, with a new Moroccan Spa Experience that we’re dying to try out. For just £69 per person, guests can enjoy use of the cedar hot tub and barrel heat room for 90 minutes, Moroccan cakes, fresh mint tea, a glass of cava, a pampering treatment, and a two course lunch.
To book the package, head to Sands Resort’s website or call 01637 872864.
PAMPER AT HOME WITH BLOOM REMEDIES
If hot tubs and steam rooms aren’t her thing, let your mum recreate a spa experience at home with some luxurious skincare and therapy products. We love Bloom Remedies’ natural skincare ranges, which are all handmade using completely natural organic ingredients. Opt for a mix and match of moisturisers, face oils, balms and body scrubs, or pick from the gift packs of specially crafted products formulated for a number of symptoms, including a serenity slumber and restorative rose range.
Designer and maker Rosie Drake-Knight is based in Devon, designing and handcrafting gorgeous leather luggage from her seaside studio. Producing functional fashion using traceable materials, Rosie’s range features tote bags, backpacks, card purses and more, in a range of beautiful patterns and colours. We love these metallic zip pouches, which are versatile enough to be a wash bag by day and a clutch bag by night. Rosie Drake-Knight’s products can be purchased online or in Cornwall at Academy in St Ives, End Paper in Penzance, and Old Bank Studios in Falmouth.
A KEEP CUP FOR THE CAFFEINE LOVER
If caffeine is the secret to your mum’s superpowers, keep her fuelled with a coffee on the go. Ditching the disposables and adding style to any cup of Joe, Keep Cups are highly functional reusable coffee cups that come in a range of colours and sizes, and you can even design your own based on your mum’s favourite colours (or outfit). Pick up a Keep Cup in Jam Jar in Newquay, Nauti But Ice in Porthleven, and Espressini in Falmouth.
CORNWALL-INSPIRED PRINTS FROM LOU TONKIN
Lou Tonkin‘s range of prints, ceramics and homewares is inspired by the local flora and fauna, capturing Cornwall’s landscapes and wildlife perfectly in beautiful lino cut prints. Each image is hand-carved by Lou in her studio and then screen printed, which is transferred onto all matter of materials. We love the beachcomber tea towels, which are adorned with the items you’d spot on a walk along the shoreline. Lou Tonkin’s products are available via her online shop, or from Seven Broad Street in Penryn, which has quite specific opening times, so do check it’s open before you go.
Understated and minimal, Wanderlust Life’s jewellery is the perfect accessory for a mum on the go, with a range of beautiful earrings, necklaces and bracelets that can be worn for any occasion. We love the semi-precious gemstones on fine cord necklaces, which dangle gracefully and appear to ‘float’ when they’re worn. Due to the nature of each stone’s formation, they are all completely unique and one-of-a-kind, and each piece of jewellery is handmade in Devon. The jewellery can be purchased from Roo’s Beach in Porth, Jo & Co Home at Hawksfield near Wadebridge, and Sennen Surf Co in Sennen Cove.
A CORNISH FOODIE HAMPER
If your mum is a fan of food (and let’s face it, who isn’t?), put a delicious hamper together of the finest produce from Cornwall and beyond. BinTwo at the Arc at Hawksfield has an amazing selection of artisan food and drink from the local area, Italy, Sweden and Sardinia, with a collection of the best wines around, hand picked by the team at BinTwo.
The Great Cornish Food Store in Truro also stocks a huge range of great produce, an independent grocery store with its very own butcher, fishmonger and café, deli, and takeaway; and Picnic Cornwall in Falmouth specialises in bespoke and beautiful hampers, which are put together on request.
KEEP WARM WITH ATLANTIC BLANKETS
With a gorgeous range of soft and versatile throws, Atlantic Blankets stocks a beautiful assortment of bed coverings, scarves and picnic blankets. Sourcing the blankets from the best wool mills in the country, each product is contemporary in design and practical in nature, with a recycled range and dog beds available too. If you can’t decide which colour your mum would prefer, vouchers are available in the online shop for her to choose one herself.
